The research in the Department of Automation and Industrial Informatics is oriented towards areas of interest related to flexible manufacturing systems, intelligent image processing, open systems, automation for energy systems, data processing through Cloud and Edge Computing, complex systems, intelligent enterprises, medical informatics, hazard management. These are in line with the new paradigms and technologies promoted for autonomous and intelligent systems based on the Internet of Things, Industry 4.0, Big Data, digital twins, autonomous and cognitive robotics, as well as for the new methods of secure data collection from sensors and social networks.

The research plan of the Department of Automatic Control and Industrial Informatics includes the following topics, correlated with the research projects at national and international level having as directors or responsible teachers in the department:

Within the department operates the Center for Research and Training in Robotics, Industrial Informatics and Systems Engineering (CIMR), Director: Theodor BORANGIU.The most important research directions of CIMR in recent years are:

  • Management systems with distributed intelligence of manufacturing processes
  • Multi-agent and holonic systems in semi-hierarchical architectures for product-directed automation of production processes and services
  • Automatic driving systems of industrial robots for power / unloading operations, CNC machine service, welding, assembly / assembly, technological processing (grinding, painting), forging
  • Artificial robot-view applications for the management of unorganized warehouses of products, control of the geometry of products and the condition of their surfaces, service of conveyor belts,
  • Applications and platforms for sorting, storage and robotic packaging of products
  • Integration of robot systems in production lines
  • Modeling and designing systems for services with it support
  • Service innovation, metrics and performance indicators
