SUMMARY:ENgineering Responsible Smart Systems (EN-RSS)
DESCRIPTION:\nWorkshop exploratoriu ȋn cadrul conferinţei ”Smart diaspora – diaspora în învățământ superior, știință, inovare și antreprenoriat. Diaspora și prietenii ei” – Smart Diaspora 2023, 10-13 aprilie 2023, Timişoara.\n\n\n\nDescription\n\n\n\n‍Artificial Intelligence is becoming a key enabler for new systems in a variety of domains, including smart health, manufacturing, transportation, agriculture, to name a few. It provides the technological enablement for solving pressing issues such as automation of routine tasks, improvement of systems performance and efficiency, and accelerates the digitization of many sectors. At the same time, AI can have negative impact on society when used without sound engineering principles or input from a variety of stakeholders. There are many challenges in engineering responsible smart systems, such as fairness, transparency, safety, privacy and security combined with the demand for ensuring equal access, inspiring participation and engagement, and protecting civic rights and liberties. Meeting these challenges is only possible through advances in fundamental AI and learning technologies, software and system engineering for AI smart systems, assurances for AI intensive systems and through a multidisciplinary effort.\n\n\n\nThis workshop brings together researchers, practitioners and policy makers from academic, research and government institutions, from Romania and abroad, to present and debate the state of the art and practice in engineering smart systems. The presentations will be on topics including but not limited to:\n\n\n\n\nArtificial Intelligence and Big Data\n\n\n\nSoftware and system engineering for large scale socio-technical systems\n\n\n\nProcess automation including IT cloud automation and AIOos, autonomic and self-adaptive systems\n\n\n\nSocio-technical factors for smart systems: human and social factors; trust, ethics, privacy, security, safety; social and environmental implications, sustainability, law and public policies.\n\n\n\nApplications of Smart Systems, e.g. cyber-phyysical systems, internet of things, smart health, smart transportation, etc.\n\n\n\n\nThe workshop will also include several panels and round-tables with the goal to develop new research and collaboration programs among the participants.\n\n\n\nThe workshop participation is gender diverse and multi-disciplinary, including Master, PhD and postdoctoral students, early career, and established researchers from Romania and abroad.\n\n\n\n\nInvited Speakers from Diaspora \nGheorghe CĂPĂȚÂNĂProfessor, Dr.Universitatea de Stat din Moldova, Chişinău, Republica MoldovaSilvia CȊRSTEA Associate Professor, Dr.Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, UKSergiu DASCĂLU Professor, Dr.University of Nevada, Reno, USAAda DIACONESCUAssociate Professor, Dr.Telecom Paris, FranceMark FRȊNCU Senior Lecturer, Dr.Nottingham Trent University, UKDan IONESCUProfessor, Dr.University of Ottawa, CanadaAlexandru IOSUPProfessor, Dr.Vrije University Amsterdam, NetherlandMarin LIŢOIU Professor, Dr.York University, Toronto, CanadaCristina LUCAAssociate Professor, Dr.Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, UKIrina NEDELCUSoftware development engineerAmazon EU, LuxemburgVio ONUŢAdjunct Professor / Senior Manager Research, Dr.University of Ottawa / IBM, CanadaAna-Lucia VȂRBĂNESCU Professor, Dr.University of Twente, Netherlands\n\n\n\n\nInvited Speakers from Romania\nLiliana DOBRICĂProfessor, Dr.Universitatea POLITEHNICA din BucureştiMiruna Elena ILIUŢĂTeaching Assistant, PhD StudentUniversitatea POLITEHNICA din BucureştiAnca Daniela IONIŢĂProfessor, Dr.Universitatea POLITEHNICA din BucureştiMihnea Alexandru MOISESCUProfessor, Dr.Universitatea POLITEHNICA din BucureştiDana PETCUProfessor, Dr.Universitatea de Vest TimişoaraMălina STANCIUMaster’s StudentUniversitatea POLITEHNICA din BucureştiLăcrămioara STOICU-TIVADARProfessor, Dr.Universitatea Politehnica Timişoara\n\n\n\n\nOrganizers\nSergiu DASCĂLUProfessor, Dr.University of Nevada, Reno, USAAnca Daniela IONIŢĂProfessor, Dr.Universitatea POLITEHNICA din BucureştiMarin LIŢOIUProfessor, Dr.York University, Toronto, CanadaMihnea Alexandru MOISESCUProfessor, Dr.Universitatea POLITEHNICA din BucureştiDana PETCUProfessor, Dr.Universitatea de Vest Timisoara\n\n\n\n\nProgram \nApril 11:\n\n\n\n\n8:30 – 9:00 Registration (UVT – B-dul Vasile Parvan 4, 059)\n\n\n\n9:00 – 10:30 Session 1: Sustainable Computing (UVT, 059)Online access linkChair: Marin Litoiu\n\nMassivizing Computer Systems: the Science, Design, and Engineering of Distributed Ecosystems,Alexandru Iosup, VU University Amsterdam, The Netherlands\n\n\n\nTowards Zero-Waste Computing.
